Amjad Hussain’s victory was announced in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly session chaired by Speaker Imran Nadeem. No other candidate submitted nomination papers for the post of Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. All members present in the house supported Amjad Hussain Advocate.
Amjad Hussain Advocate has been elected as the fifth Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. Amjad Hussain Advocate won from GBA-1 Gilgit in the recent elections. Amjad Hussain Advocate is also the President of People’s Party Gilgit-Baltistan. Amjad Hussain Advocate was a member of Gilgit-Baltistan Council from 2010 to 2015. Amjad Hussain won from two constituencies in the 2020 elections.
The date of the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected Chief Minister will be announced later.
Earlier, Imran Nadeem of the PPP was elected unopposed as the new Speaker of the GB Assembly, while Kifayat-ur-Rehman Advocate of the PML-N was also elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker.
On the other hand, on the request of the opposition members, Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Imran Nadeem has declared PML-N Gilgit-Baltistan President Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman as the Opposition Leader.
