When honesty becomes fashion?

When I opened my eyes in the morning, everything was the same. The sun had risen from the east, the wind was blowing the same way, the birds were chirping the same way, but for some reason there was a strange calm in the air. It felt as if the darkness of the night had taken with it not only darkness but also a large part of dishonesty, deceit and deception. When I left the house, the first surprise was waiting for me in the market. A shopkeeper was telling his customer, “Brother, you shouldn’t have given this thing so expensive, yesterday I had mistakenly charged more, this is your remaining money.” There was surprise in the customer’s eyes and satisfaction on the shopkeeper’s face. For the first time, I realized that profit can be earned not only with money, but also with character… After walking a few steps, a young man found a wallet lying on the road. Instead of opening his wallet and counting the money, he looked for his identity card and called the owner. The people standing around were not looking at him stupidly but with respectful eyes. Then I realized that society is changing on the day when the ridicule on goodness ends and honesty becomes a symbol of respect… Perhaps this was the day when honesty was no longer just an advice, but became a fashion. People were not adopting it because someone was watching them, but because they had to be honest in front of their conscience. That day, for the first time, I felt that if character starts getting respect, it doesn’t take long for the destiny of nations to change… As I moved forward, the city scene seemed to smile for the first time in years. There was a crowd of people outside a government office, but there was no helplessness on their faces. No one was looking for a recommendation, nor was there an envelope in anyone’s pocket. The officer sitting at the counter said to an elderly man, “There is one paper missing from your file, but don’t worry, this responsibility is ours too.” We ourselves call from the relevant department, I kept watching this officer for a long time, the surprise was not that he was doing his duty, the surprise was that doing his duty was no longer an unusual occurrence… At the courthouse door, a lawyer was telling his client, your case is weak, I will not give you false hope. It is better to reconcile, I felt that perhaps justice does not come only from decisions, justice is born from the first courage to speak the truth… When I passed by the school, a teacher was telling the children, the greatest degree in life is honesty, if you achieve this, the rest of the achievements will find their way, the children were listening silently, because they were learning lessons from the teacher’s character more than from a book… As the day wore on, an election rally was seen, the candidate standing on the stage was not making big promises. He was saying, I cannot solve every problem, but I promise that I will never lie to the people. The surprising thing was that the crowd applauded the most on this sentence. Perhaps now people were starting to like truth more than flattering slogans. I thought to myself, new bridges, new roads and tall buildings are not always enough to develop nations. Sometimes a true signature, an accurate scale, an honest decision and a clear conscience strengthen the foundations of an entire nation. The day honesty is not considered a weakness but a dignity, that day progress begins to be seen not only in numbers but also in the faces of people. Then I saw a young man. He had been offered a job by a big company, but the condition was that he would have to make false statements in a few papers. He smiled and said, “You can get a job again, but once you lose your conscience, you may never get it back.” Listening to him, I realized that when a generation starts considering their conscience as their greatest wealth, it doesn’t take long for the destiny of nations to change. At the same time, a child asked his father, “Father! Why did people act dishonestly in the past?” The father was silent for a few moments, then he said, “Son!” Sometimes people thought that dishonesty shortens the path, but later they realized that those paths lead not to the destination, but to destruction. Hearing this, my steps stopped. I looked at the sky. The sun had set, but a new light was rising in my heart. I felt that the real prosperity of a nation is not measured by the wealth accumulated in its banks, but by the honesty accumulated in the character of its citizens. When honest people become heroes of society, when those who speak the truth are not ashamed but considered to be proud, when halal livelihood is considered success and unlawful earnings are considered failure, then not only individuals, but the whole history changes. The whole day passed strangely… No news of adulteration was heard anywhere, no one boasted of violating the rights of others, no one called lying wise. It seemed as if the values of society had silently changed. Wealth was still important, but honor had become much more valuable. People were not impressed by someone’s car, bungalow or clothes, but they used to ask how pure his earnings were, how clean his character was, how true his promises were… Remember, every big change does not start with a law, but with the decision of one person… And when one after another, another after another makes honesty their motto, then a society is born where honesty is no longer just a virtue… it becomes a fashion… Then suddenly my eyes opened… I looked out the window. It was the same city, the same streets, the same market, the same office, the same people. Here there was adulteration, here there was lies, here there was recommendation, here there was a shadow of bribery.
