Awareness Session on Metabolic Health, Obesity and GLP-1 Medicines Held in Lahore

An important awareness session titled “Metabolic Transformation Excellence in Primary Care” was held in collaboration with the Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians, focusing on lifestyle intervention, obesity, diabetes and the modern clinical use of GLP-1 receptor agonists.
Speaking on the occasion, President Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians Dr. Tariq Mahmood Mian said that the increasing prevalence of obesity, diabetes and other metabolic disorders has become a major healthcare challenge. He stressed that family physicians need continuous professional awareness about modern treatment options, preventive measures and lifestyle modifications.
Consultant Physician Dr. Saeed Ahmed, highlighted the role of GLP-1 receptor agonists, particularly Semaglutide, in metabolic care. He emphasized that such medicines should be used only according to a patient’s medical condition, under a doctor’s advice and with appropriate medical supervision. He also stressed that a healthy diet, regular physical activity, weight management and positive lifestyle changes remain fundamental to improving metabolic health.
The session highlighted that obesity is not merely a weight or appearance-related issue; it is an important medical condition associated with an increased risk of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and other health complications. Early assessment, appropriate counselling and timely medical management can play a vital role in improving patients’ health and quality of life.
