A piece of news travels across continents in a few moments. A video reaches not millions, but millions of people. A picture, a sentence, an event becomes the talk of the whole world in a few hours. We call this “going viral”. But have you ever wondered what goes viral most of the time? Quarrels, ridicule, accusations, hatred, accidents, thrills and the weaknesses of others. It seems that our attention is often focused on things that create apathy, anger or just temporary curiosity within a person instead of improving him… Just imagine if the scene changed. If every morning, instead of a video of a fight on our mobile screen, there was a picture of a young man quietly carrying the burden of an old traveler. If millions of people praised the person who removed a stone from the road, paid the fee of an orphan, donated blood for a sick person or quietly placed ration at the door of a hungry person. If the standard of fame became service, honesty and sacrifice instead of wealth, noise and conflict, then perhaps the direction of our society would also start changing. The fact is that humans naturally imitate. Children learn by watching their parents, young people are influenced by their favorite characters and societies imitate the behaviors of their prominent figures. That is why what receives respect, attention and acceptance gradually becomes a social tradition. If evil gets extraordinary attention, it will feel like it is spreading, and if goodness gets respect, its discussions will also start reaching the hearts. Our tragedy is not that there are no good people in society. The tragedy is that goodness is silent while evil is making noise. Thousands of people do things every day that humanity can be proud of, but they do not become news. On the other hand, a negative incident remains the topic of conversation for hours. Perhaps it is time for us to change our perspective. Because in a society where goodness is highlighted, good people start to be born, and where only evil is discussed, despair gradually becomes a collective mood… History is a witness that great revolutions do not always start with great resources, but with small but sincere actions. The character of one person sometimes changes the thinking of an entire generation. The effectiveness of a person’s actions lies not in their size, but in their intention and their continuity. This is why in every great civilization of the world, good character was considered not just a personal virtue but the foundation of building a society… Islam also did not limit goodness to worship but spread it to every aspect of life. A smile was declared a charity, removing a painful object from the path was called a virtue, the good news of forgiveness was given to the person who watered a thirsty animal, and feeding a hungry person was said to be a source of great reward. Consider, all these are deeds that do not require wealth, position, or fame. All they require is a lively heart and an alert conscience. Today, if we look around us, we will feel that the desire for goodness still exists in the hearts of people, but often they need an example, an inspiration, and an initiation. When a young man buys books for a deserving student from his own pocket, when a shopkeeper silently helps a white-clad man while saving his self-respect, when a doctor refuses to charge a fee from a poor patient, or when a teacher goes beyond his duty to try to improve the future of a child, all these are lamps whose light, if it reaches others, can light countless new lamps…Unfortunately, the standard of fame has often been reversed in our society. The more noise he makes, the more he is seen. The more controversy he creates, the more he is discussed. But if the media, social media, educational institutions and all of us together decide that from today, good people will also be in the news, service will also make headlines, honesty will also be praiseworthy and sacrifice will also be worthy of imitation, then the priorities of future generations can change…
Perhaps we need a new competition. A competition in which people come forward not to put each other down, but to do more good than each other. If the news goes viral in a city that a young man has taken on the responsibility of educating all the orphans in his neighborhood, then it is possible that someone else in another city will also take up the same responsibility. If a businessman dedicates a part of his income to the permanently poor and his story reaches people, then perhaps dozens of businessmen will follow him. If the honesty of a student catches the attention of millions of people, then it is possible that thousands of other students will also make hard work their path instead of copying. The greatest power of goodness is that it travels from heart to heart, and one enlightened heart can enlighten many more hearts… Today, each of us has a tool in our hands that can reach millions of people in a few moments.If we resolve to convey only one good news, one good action, one good character and a good example to others every day, then maybe the tone of our conversation will change gradually, the heroes of our children will also change and the collective thinking of our nation will also change. It is not necessary that every person should spend crores of rupees or perform some extraordinary feat. Sometimes a true word, a smile, an apology, a tree, a book, a glass of water, a silent help to a needy person and an honest decision can create such a wave in society that we can’t imagine. I wish! There are also days when people anxiously open their mobile phones to see what new goodness has gone viral today, who has eased a stranger, who has mended a broken heart, and who has made humanity proud. The day we see more love than hate, more service than blame and more good than evil on our screens, maybe that day we will also realize that big revolutions are not always necessary to change society, sometimes just a good thing going viral is enough.
