FIFA President’s letter to 2026 World Cup runners-up Argentina has been leaked

The letter comes as FIFA is formally investigating the on-field brawl that broke out between players at the end of the final match against Spain.

In his letter, Gianni Infantino, referring to the final played on July 19, 2026, wrote, “Argentina won the silver medal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a thrilling final against Spain. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Argentine football on this magnificent achievement.” He also wrote, “Argentina’s excellent performance in the World Cup made this tournament memorable.” The players and head coach Lionel Scaloni’s hard work, professionalism and love for the game are the foundation of this success.
It should be noted that after the defeat by Spain in extra time in the World Cup final, the atmosphere on the ground became tense, where most of the Argentine players turned their backs during the Spanish team’s trophy ceremony and there was also an incident of scuffle between the players after the match. FIFA is currently investigating the incident.

It should be noted that it is a tradition for FIFA to send formal congratulatory letters to the medal-winning teams at the end of the World Cup.
