According to the details, Henry Crookcombe achieved a remarkable feat in first-class cricket by taking hat-tricks in two consecutive matches in the same week.
In the match against Somerset in the last week of August, Crookcombe first dismissed Craig Overton for 54 runs, after which he sent Michael Pretorius and Jack Leach to the pavilion to complete his hat-trick. Thanks to his excellent bowling, Somerset’s team was bundled out for 202 runs and Sussex took the lead in the first innings, but the match was drawn.
On September 3, on the second day of the match against Essex, Crookcombe once again played a devastating spell, dismissed Simon Harmer lbw and Zaman Akhtar and Shane Senter on the first ball to complete his second consecutive hat-trick.
Cromwell’s brilliant performance saw Essex bowled out for 177 and Sussex took a 98-run lead in the first innings. With this feat, Cromwell became the seventh bowler to take a hat-trick in two consecutive matches in first-class cricket.
