The Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights and Health met under the chairmanship of Senators Samina Zehri and Aamir Waleeduddin. The meeting considered “The National Population Coordination and Reproductive Health Bill, 2026”.
Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said in the meeting that sexual activities of the young generation after using drugs at night parties are also the reason for the increase in HIV, and there is serious concern about what is happening at night parties.
Mustafa Kamal said that the Prime Minister is very serious about the issue of population control and has held several meetings. The committee comprising Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Finance Minister and other officials is working regularly.
He said that 82 percent of the NFC award formula is based on population, which is giving a kind of incentive to the provinces to increase the population. In neighboring countries, the weightage of population in the NFC award is only 17 percent. In our country, the province that reduces its population will have its funds reduced.
The Health Minister said that with the efforts of the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister, taxes on contraceptives have been reduced to zero in the current budget. With zero taxes and easy availability of contraceptive resources, the population is expected to decrease by 150,000 annually.
Mustafa Kamal said that the number of newborn babies born annually in Pakistan has reached 6.7 million.
