Iran has strongly condemned the latest US attacks on its soil, saying that these actions have rendered all diplomatic efforts over the past several months meaningless and unsuccessful.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai has said that the Islamabad MoU on ceasefire with the US has expired. He said that Iran has never violated the memorandum of understanding and the US has repeatedly violated this agreement. Until the other side fulfills its obligations, Iran will not implement the MoU.
A statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that the recent US attacks are a clear violation of the UN Charter, international law and the basic principles of state sovereignty. This statement came at a time when the US Central Command announced that it had carried out another round of attacks on various Iranian military targets. The US military says the operations are aimed at further weakening Iran’s ability to target commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran rejected the US position, accusing Washington of sabotaging all diplomatic efforts made in the past few months to reduce tensions in the region and establish peace in West Asia.
The Foreign Ministry statement added that the US has once again destabilized this important maritime passage by interfering in the management of the Strait of Hormuz and the necessary security measures taken by Iran there.
Tehran says that the US military intervention has affected international commercial shipping, which has created new threats to global trade and regional security.
