JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal ur Rehman said in a statement that today I am having this conversation at a time when the Kashmiri people and the people of Pakistan are extremely concerned about the deteriorating situation in Kashmir, and the Pakistani nation is concerned about the peace, order and security of Kashmir.
Maulana Fazal ur Rehman said that the Joint Public Action Committee’s senior leaders Sardar Umar Aziz, Khawaja Mehran Advocate, Shaukat Nawaz Mir have sent me a letter signed by them, they have appealed to play the role of mediator in the crisis and tense situation in Kashmir and I have supported playing a conciliatory role for the best interests of Kashmir and Pakistan.
He said that at present the people of the committee are sitting in a sit-in and are moving towards the next action plan, obviously I need time and respite to play the role of mediator so that I can contact the government and talk about negotiations.
He said that at this time, the first ten days of Muharram, which is sacred and respectful for all Muslims and is also a sensitive day, on such an occasion, I consider it necessary that the committee cancels its sit-in in the first phase and does not move towards any further action plan so that we can find a way towards negotiations and a solution to the problem so that the people present in the sit-in, their leadership and the government can start talks to bring them to a common position.
Maulana Fazal ur Rehman also appealed to both sides to move towards a softer attitude. He said that he also requests them to be ready for talks so that this crisis can be resolved. He said that I want to give this message to the Kashmir Joint Committee and the government of the day with good hope in taking steps to create a conducive environment.
