King Edward Medical University (KEMU) and Mayo Hospital Lahore have achieved a historic milestone by successfully performing Punjab’s first robotic-assisted Total Hip Replacement (THR) in the public sector. The procedure also marks the first-ever robotic surgery conducted at Mayo Hospital, ushering in a new era of precision and innovation in public healthcare.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz congratulated the Orthopaedic Surgery team, stating that this landmark achievement represents a major advancement in Pakistan’s public healthcare system and will enable patients to benefit from world-class, technology-driven orthopaedic care.
The historic surgery was successfully performed under the leadership of Prof. Faisal Masood, with the dedicated team comprising Prof. Mumraiz Naqashband, Dr. Subhan Shahid, Dr. Kashif Naseer, Dr. Mazhar Raique, and Dr. Fahad Khagah.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Faisal Masood, Head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, said that robotic navigation ensures highly accurate implant positioning, leading to improved surgical precision, better functional outcomes, enhanced implant longevity, and faster patient recovery.
