The Department of Urology, Lahore General Hospital (LGH), organized a specialized training programme titled “RIRS: Beyond the Basics,” focusing on modern, minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of kidney stones.
Speaking at the programme, Master Trainer Prof. Dr. Salman El Khalid said that RIRS and Flexible Ureteroscopy have emerged as effective modern approaches for kidney stone management. He emphasized the importance of proper patient selection, pre-operative planning and expertise in advanced techniques such as Laser Lithotripsy, Dusting and Fragmentation to ensure safer and more effective treatment of complex renal stones.
Programme Moderator Prof. Dr. Arif Ali said that RIRS is continuously evolving and keeping urologists updated with the latest techniques is essential.
He highlighted that such programmes provide an important platform for sharing expert experience, learning advanced procedures and strengthening the practical skills of young urologists.
Dr. Kamran Zaidi, In-charge of the Department of Urology, said the programme was highly significant for promoting modern urological care in Pakistan. He said hands-on training and live surgical demonstrations enabled young urologists to develop practical expertise in advanced stone-management techniques, ultimately benefiting patients through improved and modern treatment facilities.
The programme was attended by prominent urologists, including Prof. Dr. Abdul Majid Rana, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nazir, Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Prof. Dr. Khizer Hayat Gondal and Prof. Dr. Fawad Nasrullah, along with other specialists and trainees.
