Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore, Ziauddin Ansari, has termed the petroleum levy an oppressive tax that has further burdened citizens already affected by inflation. Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he demanded the immediate withdrawal of the levy and announced a nationwide historic wheel-jam protest on August 7, preceded by a week-long public awareness campaign and protest activities across the city. He urged the government to respect the democratic right to peaceful protest, avoid the use of force, and provide meaningful economic relief by reducing fuel prices and abolishing the petroleum levy.
