President Pakistan Drug Lawyer Forum Noor Muhammad Mahar has called for expanding the role of qualified Pharm-D pharmacists through proper clinical training, competency assessment and regulatory safeguards.
He said limited prescribing should be allowed only under defined SOPs and an approved medicine list, while pharmacists can provide medication counselling, BP/glucose screening, medication monitoring and minor wound care.
Mahar stressed that pharmacists should complement, not replace, physicians, with diagnosis of complex and emergency cases remaining within the medical profession.
