A study has revealed important findings regarding the prevention of mental stress and fatigue for working professionals, according to which taking vacations after short breaks may be more beneficial than taking all the vacations throughout the year at once.
A research paper published in the US National Library of Medicine in 2025 states that taking a short vacation every two months is helpful in improving mental freshness, health and work performance.
According to the research, although long annual vacations also provide temporary peace of mind, their positive effects start to decrease within a few weeks of returning to work.
Researchers say that on the contrary, short but frequent vacations may be more effective in keeping mental stress low on a consistent basis, which also improves the overall productivity and focus of employees.
The research also suggests that a system of vacations at regular intervals may be a more effective strategy for maintaining a balance between work and rest.
